Baptism

Baptism at Legacy Church

Jesus was himself baptised by his cousin John in obedience to his call. We believe that all Christians should be baptised as a public declaration that they are a disciple of Jesus and are burying the past, no matter what that is, to follow in this new lifestyle. Baptism symbolises the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ. We believe this is the next step of our commitment in our Christian faith.

13 Then Jesus went from Galilee to the Jordan River to be baptised by John.
14 But John tried to talk him out of it. “I am the one who needs to be baptised by you,” he said, “so why are you coming to me?”
15 But Jesus said, “It should be done, for we must carry out all that God requires.” So John agreed to baptise him.
16 After his baptism, as Jesus came up out of the water, the heavens were opened and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and settling on him.
17 And a voice from heaven said, “This is my dearly loved Son, who brings me great joy.”Matthew 3:13-17 (NLT)
Why should I be baptised?

If you have made a commitment to be a disciple of Jesus, we believe it is the next step to publicly declare your faith, You may say, “I was baptised as a child, so why do I need to be baptised again.?” We believe the decision to be baptised is made by someone who understands the reason why they are taking this important step. Babies cannot make this informed decision. Also baptism means to be completely immersed in water which differs from a christening.

When can I get baptised?

We announce planned baptism services on a regular basis and encourage you to speak to a friend or one of the leaders in the church about the next step. Before you get baptised a meeting with one of the leaders will take place and any further questions that you may have will be answered.

What happens after I get baptised?

At Legacy Church, we believe that it is important to be involved in the life of the church. There are plenty of opportunities to volunteer in different aspects of our church. This is not a requirement but we encourage you to get involved in which ever way you feel you can serve and add to what we do. We also encourage you to join a Connect Group and grow in your new faith with other Christians who are on a similar journey as yourself.
